We’ve just released a big update to all our our themes to support Tumblr’s new full-width inline images feature.
Previously Tumblr had a 500px limit on the size of images uploaded to Text posts and captions, so you had to upload the image elsewhere if you wanted it to show up in high resolution. Now you can add high-res images anywhere you like!
In Text posts, they’ll display at the full width of the post, and inside captions they’ll usually display larger – at the same width as the main image or video. The theme won’t scale up the image, so if it’s not large enough it will just sit centrally in the post, no stretching.
To add an image inside a Text post or caption, just start a new line, hit the ‘plus’ icon to the left and then select the photo icon. Like this:
This technique is great for telling stories, as you can mix text and images together to create your narrative. You can use a ‘read more’ link to shorten your post on the home page, and use dividers to make sections inside your posts. You can even add videos from YouTube or Vimeo! It’s also great for portfolios and case studies.
